Math for Coding: Patterns, Logic & Grids for Class 3–5

Why primary math-for-CS (patterns, true/false, Venn, grids, turns) matters before algebra — and how Mentr Learn’s free Math track teaches it.

“Math for coding” at Class 3–5 is not algebra bootcamp. It is the thinking computers reuse: patterns, true/false, sorting, grids, turns, estimates, and breaking jobs into steps — with numbers still in primary range. Mentr Learn’s free Math for CS track (20 modules) teaches exactly that so coding later feels natural.

What belongs in math-for-CS (primary)

  • Binary lights / odd-even / place value / skip-count
  • Growing patterns and naming the rule
  • AND / OR / NOT stories and Venn
  • 2D shapes, first-quadrant grids, 90° turns
  • Estimate, likely/unlikely, work backwards, decompose tasks

Out of scope on purpose: Class 6 algebra-first units, formal proofs, probability formulae, and long-division as the point of the course.

How it links to CS and AI tracks

CS uses sequence and loops; Math makes patterns and grids concrete; AI uses “examples and labels.” Together they are the 60-module foundation. Kids can pace Math modules on alternate days if school maths homework is heavy.
